Troy R. Unruh
Program Officer
Troy R Unruh is a native
Kansan born in Lyons, KS, son of Robert & Rita Unruh and a 1981 graduate of
Garden City High School. He graduated from Baker University with a Bachelor
of Science in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Computer
Science in 1985.
Mr. Unruh worked as a
Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor in Eugene, OR before returning to his
home state of Kansas in 1988. Upon his return he entered into a partnership
with Robert R Unruh State Farm Insurance Agency and has been a State Farm
Insurance agent for 20 years.
Mr. Unruh has been a part
of many boards and civic organizations including: Western Kansas Community
Foundation, Garden City Teachers Federal Credit Union, Leadership Garden
City, Kansas Leadership Forum, Finney County Community Health Coalition,
Rotary and newly elected 12th District Precinct Committeeman.
In 2005, Mr. Unruh became
the part-time Program Officer for the Western Kansas Community Foundation.
Through this opportunity Mr. Unruh participated in the Kansas Community
Leadership Initiative III sponsored by the Kansas Health Foundation and now
serves on an Advisory Board to the Kansas Leadership Center. Mr. Unruh
became President Elect of the Kansas Leadership Forum, a Kansas grassroots
organization to promote leadership for Kansans by Kansans, in 2008.
Mr. Unruh is an Advanced
Leadership Facilitator and has worked with many communities, schools and
organizations in and outside the state including Scott City, Deerfield,
Leoti, Ulysses, Liberal, Wichita, and Richmond, IN.
Troy and his wife Brenda, a
home schooling mother, have four children, three daughters Maggie, Emily and
Elizabeth and one son Drew. Troy and Brenda are Sunday school teachers at
Bible Christian Church. He has been a facilitator for Financial Peace
University, a life-changing program that teaches you how to make the right
decisions with your money and a coordinator for Growing Kids God’s Way,
which teaches parents to apply God’s wisdom and principles in the most
important role in their life.
The Unruh family is very
active and enjoys biking, swimming, camping and visiting relatives in
Brenda’s home state of Wisconsin. In 2008, Troy and his children competed in
their first Sprint Triathlon and are looking forward to the 2009 season.
