Ward Loyd
Ward is a lawyer, and he
and his wife, Susie, have lived in Garden City for 40 years. They have two
daughters. Katherine lives in Wichita with her husband Jeff Falkner, and
their three children. Keele lives in Aspen, operating a women's retail
clothing store and a design studio.
He was raised in Kiowa, Kansas, and graduated from Southwestern College at
Winfield and then Washburn Law School. He has been active in many
professional organizations, serving as a President for the Southwest Kansas
Bar Association, as a member of the Supreme Court Client Protection Fund
Commission, and is a Fellow of The Kansas Bar Foundation. Ward has enjoyed
service as a Director for the Garden City Area Chamber of Commerce, a City
Commissioner and Mayor for the City of Garden City, and as a State
Representative in the Kansas Legislature. In 2006 Governor Sebelius
appointed Ward as Chairman of the Kansas Advisory Group on Juvenile Justice
and Delinquency. He now also serves as a member of the Kansas Education
Alliance's Executive Committee, and The Kansas Coalition for Lifesaving
Cures' Advisory Group.
Awards include the Chamber's Award of Merit for 1992, the Outstanding Public
Official of the Year Award for 2003 from the Kansas Association of Addiction
Professionals, the 2006 Intergovernmental Leadership Award from the Kansas
League of Municipalities, and presentation of the Key to the City of Garden
City. The award he takes most pride in is Susie's Crystal Apple, awarded to
her as an outstanding teacher.
Ward enjoys time for reading, time with Susie and his girls, and those busy
grandchildren.
